3 Reasons Year-Round Kids Swim Lessons are Worth Every Penny
Why Swimming Classes are Investments in Your Child
It's that time of year again. Children are back in class and refocusing on their school-year studies. New schools, new grades and new schedules. During this time of year many parents are forced to make the decision about whether their kids will remain in their swim classes or opt for other extra-curricular activities. Atlantis Swim Academy, we support every parent in their decision because we know that nobody knows your child better than you, but wee wanted to take a moment to remind you of the top 3 reasons year -round lessons are worth the investment.
Keeping Your Child Safe
We never shy away from our primary goal: Teaching your child how to be safe and smart around water. To reach this goal your child needs to develop and master skills, skills that need to be practiced for them to remain effective. As children progress through their Spring or Summer lessons you may have noticed their skills improving. However, after months outside the water, especially during our winter months with no practice, those skills diminish significantly. If we ADULTS have trouble keeping with our diets and exercise goals during these months, how can we expect our children to remember what a proper stroke looks like?
Proven, Established Curriculum
With highly trained instructors at the helm, our curriculum is carefully crafted to progressively build upon previously learned skills. Each skill-set achievement leads them into a higher level where they can continuously use/implement the skills they have just learned/mastered. When lessons are interrupted for months at a time, children will spend a good deal of time re-learning the skills they need (but forgot) in order to progress to the next level, which can be frustrating for both the child and parents. Often these pro-longed interruptions frustrate our coaches as well, who strive to deliver the highest quality of teaching in each lesson. We hate to see a child make progress and develop skills only to have to relearn them later.
Stronger Cognitive Performance
It's no secret that more physical activity leads to higher cognitive performance in adults, but did you know that the effects are even more profound
in children? In a four (4) year study by the Griffith Institute for Educational Research
in Australia, researchers found that children who participated in swim lessons demonstrated more advanced cognitive abilities than other children. From understanding directions to mathematics reasoning, your investment in childhood swim lessons may also be contributing to strong mental performance and development.
These effects aren't limited to school aged children either. These studies have shown that children beginning swim lessons at the toddler stage are typically well ahead of their peers developmentally, socially and physically, by the time they are ready for preschool. This is great news for every parent AND something that can be achieved by every parent. The monthly cost for swim lessons is MUCH lower than many other activities/sports out there and the schedules remain stable which is helpful for every parent struggling with a crazy back to school calendar.
